Firefox is a browser. It replaces Internet Explorer. If you are using a web based e-mail, such as netscape, aol, or yahoo, you would continue to use it just the same as you do with IE. Simple go to the web site and open your mail. Firefox (like Internet Explorer) does not have any e-mail abilities included.
If you currently use Outlook Express to access your e-mail, you can continue to use it just like you do now. It does not care whether are using IE or Firefox as your browser. Or you can switch to Thunderbird, which as an Outlook Express like program made by the people who make Firefox.

Yes AOL bought Netscape and in a deal with Microsoft promised to never make another new version.
Firefox doesn't have an e-mail client, it's made to work with whatever e-mail software you already use. If you don't have e-mail software well, they make that too (see link)

Firefox's e-mail client is called Thunderbird, but you could still use Outlook Express or Hotmail or whatever e-mail program / web site you use, reguardless of the browser you are using.
