The word used in ancient Greek is uvamaršiyuš which translates into "his own death." This could be misconstrued as suicide. However, Herodotus writes that Cambyses, upon hearing of the rebellion in Persia leapt on his horse in order to return and quell the rebellion. Unfortunately, his leap caused his sword to run through his thigh, and he bled to death.
