At least the non-engineering students understand proper english grammar.

I majored in physics and I tutored people in physics and engineering. I also took a few extra literature and writing courses as electives, and I already wrote well to begin with. I have worked as an engineer for the past 14 years. If you are an engineer, you will have to do quite a bit of technical writing. You are not going to get a job if nobody can understand what you are writing about.
