How does birth control work? Is it supposed to be used in conjunction with condoms? i.e. can a girl get pregnant while on the pill but without a condom?

Birth Control is a form of progesterone and estrogen (two hormones we have naturally in our body.) that keeps your ovary from expelling an egg. (It kind of tricks your body into thinking it is already pregnant and that is why the egg is not released because of the extra hormones.) You should definitley use the pill and a condom because birth control first of all will not protect against STD's or HIV. A girl can most definitley get pregnant on the pill, three of my friends have already had "pill babies." The most important thing to remember is to protect your body and your partner's that's what makes being intimate so fun because then you don't have to really worry about anything!!!

birth control is not 100% effective, but good. some folks use condoms in conjunction with BC. BC does not prevent against STD's, so a condom is in order if you have more than one partner. if you want to prevent pregnancy and STD's then BC and condoms are a good idea. abstinence works too.

You don't need to use a condom when on the birth control pill, unless something compromised the pill, like forgetting to take it or your on a medication that reduces the effectiveness of the pill. OR if your partner has a communicable disease (HIV, VD, STD, etc). The pill is 99.9% effective.

it is better to use both..if the pill is not taken at the same time every day or a pill is missed..or if you are taking some anti biotics or herbal supplements that interfere with the hormones you can become pregnant while on it..use a condom and be safe!!
