In the absence of a living will, who decides when and/or if life support is revoked? The state or the parents?

Most likely the doctors treating if the condition is life threatening. If long term then probably parents but you should check with a layer just to make sure. Any doubts make sure your parents know your wishes if you cannot speak for yourself. You can also do the paper work yourself and save the cost of an attorney and name a patient advocate. That is one that you have appointed to make your decisions if you can't. Just follow the directions with the forms, get them notarized and let your patient advocate have a copy or tell them where the paperwork is just in case there is a problem with your family members that aren't named. Hopefully you will never need this but it may help.

Sorry had to answer even though never been in this particular situation. I'm divorced, two teens, mid 40's. I praise you for raising your kids alone! I would have dumped any guy who says they think having a family was a burden. I don't mean to sound harsh but the truth is he's selfish and will continue to be. Living at home to build a music career? He sure does have it good. Why don't you push him away slowly to see how he reacts. If he throws a tantrum then I think you know what your next step should be. Your giving too much to him. I know there is some great guy out there waiting to find a good woman like you. If you happen to meet a guy like that and he wants to get serious with you make sure he wants the whole package.

The next of kin makes those decisions. In the case above that would be the parents.
