The book was about a girl who goes to live with her aunt (I think) who's husband used to carve them wooden children because she couldn't conceive. The children were named alphabetically up to H, though there was a "girl" child being carved when her husband passed away named Iris, who was buried since she was never finished. The aunt used to talk to the children as though they were alive and it was quite creepy, but an interesting read. The only other thing I remember about this book was that the aunt and uncle owned a country convenience store, but the aunt closed that after the death of her husband. Can anybody out there help me?

One more thing I remember is that actually was that the aunt claimed another to be dead because he was shot by a couple of little punks. There was also some weird mystery surrounding them too; I think they moved in the middle of the night, or the aunt was moving them, or something. Man, this is driving me nuts!
