It was called "Electric Dreams." The computer came to life after the main character tried to download all his boss's files and the computer overheated and he dowsed it with champagne. And there was a girl cellist who lived upstairs, and the computer liked her music, but the guy was in love with her too. The soundtrack was by Jeff Lynne. Can you tell I really liked this movie???
By the way...NEVER try to look up a DVD of "Electric Dreams" on Amazon. The only listing is a porn flick. How embarrassing.

It was "Electric Dreams", and it featured a great song by Culture Club called "The Dream". I really liked this movie because it showed how strong human emotions such as love, jealousy, and anger can be, even when imitated by a computer. It is a theme that has been done before in movies like "2001" and "A.I.", but Electric Dreams was a nice period piece, and was ahead of its time when released.

I remember that one too, though I admit I forgot the title (Electric Dreams) until I saw it posted by others here.
As I recall the guy was an engineer or architect who was trying to design an earthquake-proof building. I think the computer ultimately came up with a new interlocking brick design while it was dreaming and ended up giving it to the guy. I think it "died" right after, but it's been a very long time since I've seen it.

It's "Electric Dreams" If you're thinking of the one I am. The Guy buys a computer and spills champagne on it and it comes to life....You can't find it on DVD I don't think but sometimes there are copies for sale on EBay.

There is also a "B" movie called Urge To Kill its about a hi-tech apartment that grows feelings toward the owner and kills everyone that she gets jealous over. there is not much info about it. i remember seeing it. i think she could see through her red cameras in the rooms you can check about it here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0254839/

I think you are thinking of "Weird Science" which had 2 boys who invented a beautiful women from their computer and it became real and a bit magical, and she practical took over the kid's house and family, and made a big party.
