You can remember the REAL reason for Christmas and think of the ultimate present: Jesus Christ!

Christmas's real reason has been lost on people over-spending and then literally paying for it the next year. These people you see spending because they have "lots of money" probably don't have the money, they are charging it! PLEASE don't let the shortage of money make you sad or upset, you have a family, you have a home, that is more than A LOT of people have. I don't know your age, but have you thought about getting a part-time job? It's probably too late this year to get a PT job thru the holidays but think about it for next year, or get a regular PT job to help out with some extra $$. If things are really rocky and you don't think your family can afford Christmas, go to a the salvation army or other charity in your area they can help out thru the rough times. Good Luck.

Christmas spirit isn't in materials, it is in us.
If you would like to volunteer for a metropolitan ministries, or do a good service.
Being with your family is the ultimate gift,
but here are some gift ideas:

I am a big crafts freak and I give my relatives things that I have crochetted.
Blankets, Scarves,Hats, all you need is a ball of yarn or two, and you're all set!
It will take you about $5 to make and will be work about $15 if you are pretty good at the art.
If you can't crochette,knit,sew,embroider,ect.
You should look around. It doesn't have to be an expensive place, sometimes thrift shops have very good bargains! My friend bought a CUTE purse for $1.
Also, know that many other people are on budgets. You're not left out. <3
MERRY CHRISTMAS :)

Try going wassailing! Relax, money doesn't buy happiness and half of those people spending money aren't enjoying what they are doing.

Holidays can be brutal, I strongly recommend focusing on what's important and having a few laughs.

Last year I was changing jobs/ moving over christmas. I finally got sick of being stressed out. Instead of trying to the holidays in to the schedule / budget I decided to move christmas to April 1st and call it christmas fools. It worked out awesome! I got my tax returns, bought some presents, cooked a huge meal and invited all my friends and family. Better still there were no lines and the stores weren't sold out of whatever I needed.

Things seriously worked out so well I am doing the same thing this year.

The roots of christmas, are not in the presents, are not in the lights on the houses and are not in the store we shop at. Really christmas is about Loving one another as God so loved the world that he gave his only begotton Son. So get involved in the giving of yourself. Find some who needs someone to talk to and let them share. Find a homeless shelter and give a helping hand. Go to a nursing home and visit with a person with no family. Put a bowl of milk out for a cat that is not your cat. Help a child make a present. Make a present. Make cookies for the old lady next door. Sharing is caring. Send a card and a thanks to some one who touched your life this year. Remember to thank God for what you have and for the gift of his Son. I once was broke and ask God for 2000 for christmas. I had the 2000 with in like 3 weeks right in time for Christmas. That was the last Christmas i had with my wife and son. God is able and he enjoys helping his family. Ask him and he can provide. Back then i was younger and did not know the real meaning of Christimas. This is a season of Love and caring, a time to shear our Love. God bless you

This is exactly why I felt a little disgusted yesterday when I looked on the news all day and all I could hear about was Black friday sales....and shopping shopping shopping....The true meaning of Christmas is definitely lost.....To think people acually skip Thanksgiving now so they can line up...it is just ridiculous... I began to think of how someone who couldn't afford to spend would feel when then turn on the Tv and see nothing but that nonsense....

Please remember the reason for the season...It has nothing to do with spending money....Give thanks for what you have no matter how small you think it may be!!

I am the oldest of four children. My father was a mechanic, working sometimes six days a week, and my mother was a stay-at-home mom. My mother made all of our clothes, including our winter coats. My mother also made machine button holes for people in our community who did not have an electric sewing machine. She charged 4 cents a buttonhole and saved every penny for Christmas. We received one new pair of shoes when school started. For supper we often ate cereal. Did I feel poor? No. I knew my parents loved me and were taking care of me.

My father traded his mechanic skills for rent, food, and even piano lessons for me. We had a roof over our heads, never missed a meal (meager as it might have been), and cut our own Christmas tree. At least one night during the Christmas season, my father drove us all to a nearby metropolitan area, and we cruised the streets enjoying the Christmas decorations.

Did I sometimes want things I couldn't have? You bet! Did I ever consider myself poor? No.

Through the love and thriftiness of my parents on what little they did have, I was sent to college, graduated with a B.S. in Education, and eventually received an M.S. in Education. I have been a teacher for over 40 years. The first year I taught, one of my students lived in a log cabin with dirt floors, and two of my little male students came to school wearing their sister's shoes because they didn't have shoes of their own.

Don't believe everything you see. Some of those people out there shopping don't have the money you think they do. They are using credit cards and building up a debt it will take them two, five, even ten years to pay off. When the new year arrives, you won't have a debt.

If you are fortunate enough to live close to a park with pine trees, go pick up some pine cones, look for things around the house to tie them together (fishing line, string, thread, or tear up some old clothes for twine, and string the cones together for a wreath. Maybe everyone in your family could make their own individual wreath.

Go "dumpster diving", gleaning treasures someone else may have discarded. This is a big thing among college students, and many people have discovered some great finds.

Honestly most people go into debt for Christmas
hundreds to thousands of dollars in debt. I personally know 4 people that do sooo it's not that all these people are loaded with money they just have great credit cards and live way above there means....

But for real, Christmas it not about buying presents and who can buy the best ones. It's about the celebration of Jesus enjoy the simple things in life and just be happy for what you have! and what you can't afford OH well be rich in spirit, that is more satisfying than what money can EVER buy...
I look forward to making chocolate pretzels and decorating cookies for Christmas w/ my kids and hubby that is very cheep and i love walking down the streets looking at lights! and i think to myself GLAD i can enjoy their lights and i don't have to pay the bill!!!...

If you are feeling left out because you can't afford all the Christmas decorations go to a dollar store and buy some cheaper ones! I love dolar stores - They have a bunch of stuff to choose from!
Sit around the fire, watching Christmas movies or listen to Christmas music with your family, will really boost your spirit! Celebrate the REAL meaning of Christmas!

Many of those people are in a lot of debt. Also, realize that it takes time and work to get to a point where you have that kind of disposable income.

Use this feeling as motivation to improve your situation... then when you do, look back on these times and realize happiness can be had without buying things.

But to really boost your spirit... realize you have the freedom to be who, what and where you are... you only need to see a newspaper to know it could be a lot worse.

Best wishes to you!

aww, you maybe poor money wise but you must be rich in spirit!
Christmas- people have lost its true meaning! they are selfish idiots trying to out do each other, only buying gifts for family members that they hate and only see once a year.

be happy with what you have, and make do.... I used to struggle, I had 3 babies in diapers, was a stay at home mom, with only my hubby working. it was hard in those days, still is now I have 3 teens!!!
But I also work.
maybe you can find a part time job?
just remember, Christmas is not always about giving gifts!
its supposed to be to remeber Christ.
