Quarantined files are usually infected with some kind of virus or other bad thing. They are placed into a special holding area called quarantine. While in quarantine, they are not deleted, but they are also not able to be opened or run so that they cannot spread whatever nastiness they have to the rest of your system. If you cannot clean a file that is in quarantine, the best bet is to delete it.

Quarantine means that making sure the file in which a threat has been found can not be executed. The file is place in a safe spot for where you can decide what to do with the file. In most cases, deleting the file is the action to take.

For example, let's suppose you are scanning for a virus an find a file called virus.exe. Virus.exe is sent to a quarantine so that you can decide what to do with it. Since it would be a virus, you would simply delete the file.

Quarantines exist so that you can make sure that the file is a virus and not accidentally deleting something.

Quarantine means to separate it from others, so they don't get the infection. This is stored in a quarantine area until you find a cure, or decide that the patient is too sick to get fixed, or you don't need it anyway, so you can DELETE it. (Empty the Quarantine)

Good luck and Happy Computing!

it means your virus protector will hold files in a safe place, where you can still use the file, but the virus can no longer do harm 2 your comp.. some say it's better 2 quarantine 1st. then delete later, if it can be deleted.. sometimes it's a file you still need, so your anti will try and heal it..

They are put in an isulated folder that can not be program accessed - for security purposes (viruses and such) until you repair them or delete them.

BEWARE! I hit the wrong button and deleted a system 32 file on ly laptop and - IT DIED. It will no longer boot up, saying that it needs this file and to load it from disk. Problem is, the combo drive died about 3 months ago so I have no way to reload the file.

It means they will be placed somewhere on your hard disk that will keep them from being used. You can then delete them later if you find out you don't need them any longer. But if you find that you do need them, you can restore them from the quarantine file.

Anti-spyware programs often quarantine files that most likely are viruses until you decide what to do with them. You would most likely want to delete them.
