Just twist the top off the pineapple do not cut it off with part of the fruit.Look at the nub it may already have roots.Plant it in soil and in 18 months it will be large enough to fruit. It requires full sun and moist soil.A gallon of diluted half strength liquid fertilizer 20-20-20 every other watering is good,or full strength once a week.A fruiting pineapple needs water so be generous.I had a pineapple about five feet from tip to tip with a fruit then a frost killed it.

After you get the pineapple plant established then you can "force fruit".
Wrap the whole plant in plastic wrap (loosely) and put and apple in there with it. In around 2 weeks you will see a little baby sprouting. We had to do this for a school assignment long ago and it really does work. After your baby pineapple has sprouted take the plastic off and throw the rotten apple out. Somehow the gasses from the apple make the tree "fruit". Good luck :)
