Those are states of matter (but there's also plasma). Light isn't matter, it's a wave, like sound.

LOL! Light is not a gas! That guy's smoking something! Elements, ie. materials such as water oxygen, etc can all be in solid, liquid or gaseous form. This applies to (almost, there are always exceptions) every element on the Periodic Table. These are all tangible materials. Light is ENERGY. It has absolutely nothing to do (in this way at least) with a solid, liquid or gas.

There are four states of matter, the fourth is plasma, which is a high energy mix of separated positive and negative ions.
Light is an odd-ball, as it's substance (note I didn't say matter) consists of things that can behave like particles (this model is called a photon) and a wave (another model) at the same time.
Truth is, that light is neither, and that our ways of describing it are only models that fit some of the facts we observe.
If you look at a photon of light as a packet of energy, enclosed by a probability waveform, then you are probably getting close, but then you can describe electrons and protons in the same way... not an easy one to answer, as matter and energy are interchangable (E=mc^2)

light isn't an element or compound so doesn't have a state. it is energy that exists in a form which emits energy in the visible spectrum so we see it.

there is another state of matter though other than solid, liquid and gas. - liquid crystal is a state somewhere between solid and liquid which has some of the properties of both states. liquid crystal displays have revolutionised technology since their discovery.

Solid, liquid and gas are states of matter.
Light is an electromagnetic wave. It is not a tangible object, but an energy transference.

Your getting your self confused, your trying to apply and explantion of one thing to something else.

Light is a wave form, there a many types yes but thats not your question.

Think of it this way.

Its a sunny day, you see the sun rays through the air (gas) if you were to go under water (liquid) and look up it you would still see the sun rays.

Please don't forget that plasma is also a form of matter (not the blood plasma).

Light is a form of energy like heat, sound, electricity, etc. It is not matter. Matter is anything with mass and volume.

Can you really go outside and get a cup of sunlight then bring it back inside? Of course not! That is because light is energy. Think of things in this manner to see if they are matter or energy - it works every time!

Actually, there are FIVE states of matter - solid, liquid, gas, plasma (superheated gas with cool properties) and Boze-Einstein condensate (stuff very close to absolute zero temp).

And light is energy, not matter.

Matter exists in three states; Solid , Liquid and Gas.

Light isn't matter, light is energy.

you can't weigh out 3kg of light can you?

The short explanation: light does not have mass therefore, it isn't matter. Andrea and Main are on the rigth track.
