In main stream schooling all pupils get the same level of education, some kids take advantage of whats on offer and some do not, whether they are rich or poor. If your referring to little rich kids being sent to eton etc, then think about this, what they gain in education, if anything, they lose by not being at home for 8 months of the year. I know where I'd rather have been,

Education costs money, dumbass. If something you want requires another thing that you don't have, logic tells you that you don't get that something - and school costs MONEY. So, no education for poor people. If you're trying to spark some moral debate over why the government doesn't give people everything, stop beating around the bush and do it - that's another question. The fact is, under the current state of our society, people with no money don't get things that require money, and that includes college education.

Their parents don't have the extra funds to pour money into the school system as the rich kids. In a wealthy district they hold a fund raiser for whatever--new science lab, new gym, extravagant field trip--and they always raise that money. In poor districts, the money just doesn't exist. Also, rich kids are more likely to have parents who value education and who have the time to check homework and communicate with teachers. The parents of poor kids often don't have the time to help out or don't see as much value in education.

You have answered the question yourself "because they are poor"
This was not the case before the Blair era, as we all had eduction free it was and is part of our rights and heritage of the socialist movement that believed in equal opportunity and changed the UK a long time ago including the NHS.
Myself and many others were educated and obtained their University eduction free including Blair and his wife.
Blair has put education (and the country) back to the time when only the rich had any opportunity in life.

Just because rich people go to posh places like Oxford/Cambridge, it doesn't mean they are all learning anything! Some of the poorest people in the world have had the greatest minds. You can get a great education by going to night school if you want it bad enough. Don't generalise. There is no excuse for dumbness in this day and age. People CHOOSE to learn or not to learn regardless of finance.

when the poor pay as much for their child's education as a rich person does, then you will have equality. There are tons of grants, scholarships, and lets not forget Affirmative Action that works in favor of the poor. Its the middle class that gets screwed on this one.

it's every aspect of the situation...

rich people can afford to pay for private schools... that pay MUCH more than any public school to its teachers and supplies... rich people can afford to give their kids any educational tool, like computers and books, that could help them a long the way...

poor people go to sub-standard schools, that are often very underfunded... some poor schools are decently funded, but if you actually look at it, ALMOST NONE are funded more than wealthy schools...

wealthy school districts can afford to pay more because they generate SO MUCH MORE in the community in taxes...

and who wants to go teach in an area the cops don't even care to patrol and keep safe? no decent teacher...

the simple fact is... the wealthy have NO IDEA how lucky they are... they have no clue how the poor live... they have no clue the challenges they face and the disparity in what they receive from birth to adulthood that those in poverty don't receive...

someone paying for grad school is nothing, when your rich dad payed for private school and for your college and just living in a family that values education is more important that you can even imagine... you wouldn't have made it that far with out those issues...

Rich or poor you sit the same GCSE exams etc. It is the quality of the teaching and the learning environment that is different.

We must also be mindful of socio-economic issues that vary from person to person.

It is mainly down to the individual but having a good set of teachers really does help.

THEIR EDUCATION IS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE RICH. LOOK AT ALL THE MONEY THAT IS PORED INTO THE POVERTY STRICKEN SCHOOL DISTRICTS. IT DOESN'T EVEN COME CLOSE TO BEING EQUAL. WHEN WILL THE GOVERNMENT START SPENDING EQUAL AMOUNTS ON THE EDUCATION OF ALL THE STUDENTS. SO IF YOU WANT THE EDUCATION TO BE THE SAME SPEND LESS MONEY ON THE POOR SCHOOLS.
