My best friend had one, and he said the quality was horrendous! First the hinges wore out and got sloppy, and then the keyboard quit working right..he replaced the keyboard, and it lasted about a year before it went bad yet again...and then screws literally started falling out of the case. Towards the end, he said he had to hold it together with his left hand in order for it to work at all. The worst part; this laptop never left his house! He swears he would never buy another Dell again. I was wondering, have others had the same problems with Dell quality (or lack thereof)?

Susan, that's what my friend said--there were letters that simply quit working altogether.

Probably just because of their marketing/advertising techniques. Dell I believe gives discounts to schools that purchase a large amount of thier pcs so alot of people are used to seeing them just from that which could end up influencing what they buy later. Dell does lack quality in their 'low-end' desktops and notebooks but they are generally cheaper than other brands because they have less features and the parts arent always as good. Their more exepensive products arent bad. Its generally the more you pay the better the computer.

My company uses Apples and Dells. The Dells have far higher quality and reliability than the Apples. They're good computers for a good price with the best service in the industry. Your friend must have beat the hell out of his from what you described.
