The bike had pipes, a Power Commander and the Reed blockers on it before I bought the bike (It was the dealers wifes "ride" for the year) so of course it had all the bells and whistles, but of course to sell it they had to de-bling it a bit to get the cost down, so they put the stock pipes back on and removed the Power Commander. I was told by my dealer that I only required the Power Commander if I wanted to increase top end speed and decrease fuel mileage.....Is this true?

Here is my web site that explains the power commander -

www.powercommander1.com

Basically it is used to adjust your bikes fuel air mixture for optimum performance. The addition of an exhaust system usually changes the fuel air mix and the power commander allows you to adjust the mix for better acceleration and performance. It is the fuel injection equivalent of adjusting a carb with jets and the fuel air screws.

This is necessary if you install a full exhaust system in most cases.

Cruisers – If you install a full system and the bike is running bad (backfire etc) a power commander can resolve this. Maps are downloadable from the internet for free.

Sports – Sport bikes with a slip-on is not necessary. If a full system was installed it was big $$ and the only way to get the performance you where looking for is to get a PCIII USB.

Custom Maps – Custom maps are maps made specific to your bike and can be made by your local DynoJet Certified Maintenance Center. Custom maps will get your bike to optimum performance and require approximately 2 Hours of labor to get it on the money.

When the power Commander was removed the bike went back to stock setting. How does the bike run? If it is ok you don't need if. If if backfires, is sluggish, or you want to squeez a few more HP out of it get one.

Do I recommend it - yes.
