Yes:
Hamsters:
GOOD: Don't need special "salt water." Can recognize you. Have personality. Can recognize owner. Can be taken out and played with. To some extent enjoy being played with. Love being pet.

BAD: Noisy. Poop in cage, need to change straw often. Need drinking water and food pellets. Need socialization. Escape artists.

Hermit crabs:
GOOD: Quiet. Do not need socialization. No food pellets, just regular crab-feed.

BAD: need salt-water, which is a special purchase. No personality. Do not like being pet or handled.

hamsters are harder than hermit crabs to take care of because you have to clean their cage every week.. but they are more fun and playful. They live about 2-3 year and hermit crabs dont live as long.

Hamsters require more care on the whole (their cage needs to be cleaned on a regular basis.) But the difference in care requirements isn't that big, so just go with what you like better!
