Once I was reading a magazine that was reviewing what seemed like the ultimate music website. This website had information on nearly every band imaginable, and would list the bands that had influenced them as well as the groups they would later influence. It would also list bands that had a similar sound, and had everything linked together.

Unfortunately, I can't remember what the name of that site was, and I can't seem to find it. Does anyone know of a website like this, or any good websites or blogs to help one discover new music and bands they may have never really tried?

I don't know of any website like this...but try purevolume.com or look on the itunes music store. Relevant is a good magazine, it may have a good review website. If all else fails, you can always try myspace. Oh yeah, I like to look on Amazon too because if you look up a cd that you really like it will show others that are like it or ones that people have bought in addition to that one.

...sounds like you're describing www.pandora.com, which is linked to the Music Genome Project. The project treats music as DNA and connects artists and songs to similar works and their influences. It also allows you to enter a song or artist, and listen to a stream of similar tunes.

Check it out. While you're at it, I love www.projectvibe.net, which features the best in neo-soul, jazz and hip-hop music by mainstream and underground artists.

hope this helps...
