that's one reaon sort of. The better reason is that your uterus contract so much that make you have cramps. When your uterus try to shed the lining, and it is not thin enough to come out, your uterus starts contracting. When you put hot pad on, it helps with blood circulation and thining the blood. To prevent cramps, get plenty of rest, and avoid drinking freezing cold water throughout your entire cycle...which means "ever".

Nope. Period cramps are caused by a hormone called prostaglandin. This is the hormone that causes the uterus to cramp up and shed its lining during menstruation. Prostaglandins are also why Ibuprofen (Motrin) works so well on period cramps. That medication specifically targets the prostaglandins causing a decrease in the pain they cause.
