I bought a new 1992 PLY caravan. It had an average repair expectation.
I got 225,000 miles before it started breaking too much.
I loved that vehicle and always took good care of it.
If you get your car serviced correctly, and always take it to the same mechanic, you should get about 250,000 + from today's cars IF you choose your car wisely. that could be 15 years.
Your needs will probably change before you get that many miles.

A good new car should run at least 10 years or 100,000 miles. Diesels usually last longer. Honda and Toyota has a good reputation for quality, but Americans are not that far behind. Some Americans and Koreans have very long warranties now. Luxury vehicles tend not to last as long and the repairs could be very expensive. The less gadgets a car has, the less problems a car will have generally.

Seriously, I have a 1996 vehicle with about 170 thousand miles and it's still going. It depend on the vehicle. You just pay to get it repaired by a good honest mechanic. Mine is starting to have transmission problems and the compressor is now gone, and he was nice enough to say, "Don't waste your money. You'll be fine for a while." because I told him I was about ready for a new vehicle.

it really depends on if you take care of it. if you do everything that oyu are supposed to do then it shold last a really long time, i'm thinking like 15-20 years, my car is at about 108,000 miles and it still runs fine.
