Actually, Starship Troopers is based off the book by Robert A. Heinlein. It was released in 1959, which is well before Starcraft ever came out. So the book could of very well influenced Starcraft, but is probably not based on it. The movie came after Starcraft.

Great movie and good point, it is essentially a crypto fascist society demonstrated in starship troopers, it does also borrow from ancient roman civilisation with the ideals of civilian and citizen and voting rights being granted to those who serve in the military. There is also televised executions, birth liscensing, rampant propoganda but a lack of racial fascism as there is a variety of races living in the starship troopers society. So yes, it could be very much a commentary on modern USA, and bear in mind the movie was made in 1997 so was almost premptive of the sort of America we saw post 9/11. There was a scene in the movie where the bugs destroy the city and the response is a entire invasion which leads to a massacre of many of the young good looking protagonists. Paul verhoevens predictions in starship troopers were actually worryingly accurate of Bush era USA.

they came at about the same time though
starship troopers were based on manga while back so starcraft is kind.. of base on it but not that much relation.. You don't have zerg shooting out lasers... Well im guessing zerg and terran was based on it overall.
like the boss of the aliens in starship troopers and Overmind in zerg look alike.
