o.k Sorry about that juvy stuff but it got your attention and I really need some help. I will be turning 14 in January and my dad isn't going to let me get a job and I really need one. I have tried talking, asking, and explaining to him. He won't listen and won't tell me why he doesn't want me to get a job. I am totally out of ideas on what to do. Also Do you know of any places that arn't fast food that would hire a 14 year old?

You're young, and your dad wants you to act your age. Your dad might've been forced to give up his childhood for labor, and he felt like he really missed out, or maybe he watched it happen to someone else. I know you really don't want to hear this, but I think you should enjoy being 14, before life gets even more complicated.

I think you need to be 16 to be hired by most employers. I think that is the reason your dad isn't serious.

But tell him you need job experiences to put on your resume for future careers as well as university and scholarship applications. And the more experience you have the better. So you should get started now.

Why don't you try doing odd jobs for people or helping someone who cleans houses or offices?

Do it behind his back. When he finds out, tell him that there was no problem; your grades didn't drop, you didn't die, you made money, etc.
