I'll bet you all that most of you neither own a Honda Odyssey OR a Dodge Caravan, but you're spouting off as if you know. I have an Odyssey, and I had a Caravan. The Caravan was the biggest chunk of shiit I ever owned, and the Honda is the best. The Hondas are rated the best in every publication that evaluates minivans, and the cost of ownership, including repairs and trade-in value, is the best. We spent a lot of time evaluating all the information we could find about all the minivans on the market, and we drove them all, and the Honda scored best. The Toyota Sienna always scores either second best or tied with the Honda in a lot of categories. Ford, GM and Chrysler are cheaper, but their cost of ownership is higher, especially when you consider depreciation. Mazda and Kia are nice-looking vehicles, but are not very reliable. If you can swing it, buy a Honda. No one in their right mind will second-guess your decision if they have done any research at all.

Though the Grand Caravan works just fine around town and as an Interstate cruiser, it's now been upstaged by two newer entries. Good for third place if you bring in the Toyota Sienna XLE also. It didn't help that the Dodge still uses a four-speed automatic to Toyota and Honda's more up-to-date and flexible five-speeds.

Rank the Sienna second. If the words Lexus and minivan ever were to be used in the same sentence, they'd be talking about the Toyota Sienna. In terms of materials and fit and finish, the Sienna was voted best executive suite on wheels. The brakes also seem to require ever increasing pressure to maintain stopping distances and are not confidence-inspiring in stop-and-go traffic or high-g drop-anchor stops.

The helm is just as comfortable as the aft quarters, with supportive seats and the usual fine Honda control layout to boot. Our first-place finisher is the new Honda Odyssey Touring. Odyssey's four-wheel discs halt the seven-seater from 60 mph in a carlike 123 feet. Despite carrying 200 to 300 pounds more girth than its Dodge and Toyota rivals, the Honda easily bested the other minivans to 60 mph and in the 45-65-mph passing test.

If they are only a couple years old each I would go for the Caravan, theirs a reason they are some of the best selling Vans in the country. The Honda's seats are awful. My grandparents own one that is only a couple years old and the seats are big hard blocks of foam. The Dodge's transmission problems have started to go away in past years and have become great vans! Never buy a Caravan that was from very early 90's to late 80's though, their crap.

I bought a new '95 Odyssey the first season Odysseys were introduced, put 316,000 miles on it, and traded it in last year.

I was very happy with my Odyssey. Now I have a 2003 Honda CR-V and it's wonderful.

You may pay less initially for a Caravan, but how many US-made cars have you heard about that can get 316,000 miles?

i'd take the dodge, also look at the chevy uplander, look at all of them so you can decide for yourself. i wouldn't listen to normal people who say the honda is better...i'd listen to the mechanic of 36 years(dodge man) who is also the top answerer in the trans. category and listen to what he has to say. i agree that the dodge is better...they were the first ones to come out w/ a minivan. also, for whoever said you can't put 316,000 miles on an american car, i beg to differ.

If you were a sailor, you'd recognize the Dodge as the boat anchor that it is. Get the Honda! No contest. HB

I owned a 98 Dodge Caravan that I bought new and didn't have any problems with it and I really liked. I only traded it because of high mileage.

Honda Odyssey comes with a better warranty, can have more options added, has better fuel economy and has cleaner emissions. Also has a more powerful V6 engine. ~245hp.
