On 8/25/02, Rob Van Dam defeated Chris Benoit to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship. The next night, he wrestled a title unification match against Hardcore Champion Tommy Dreamer, during which the announcers mentioned that the match would be the last-ever defense of the WWE Hardcore Championship. RVD won the match after, IIRC, a Rolling Thunder in which Dreamer was lying down on a folded ladder, becoming the final Hardcore Champion.

Because they risk level went dow after so many injurys
so they killed hardcore matches and the championship so there would be less chair hitting the guy above me said the rest i watched it rvd did win the last hardcore championship and afterword rvd won the battle for the frog splash against eddie g.RIP Was a good match too

There hardcore competitors became low so other competitors were getting trying to wrestle them, so the wwe was forced to vanquish it. The hardcore belt hasn't been around for awhile now.

WWE decided that the days of Hardcore matches is over so they decided to get rid of the title and get the US title instead.

WWE doesn't have to compete against any one so why have a hardcore divison.

i dont know maybe, i really dont know why they took it away i guess because wrestlers were getting hurt well hello thats their job to get hurt for their fans and to put their bodys on the line.
