Asians (including Indians) generally do better in school for two reasons......first many Asian immigrants work in the medical and science field. also, in general, most Indians who immigrate from India are well educated and smarter than the average Indian...this "smartness" is passed on to their kids genetically (just like how physical fitness or athletic ability can be passed). although this is always not the case.

also, traditionally Asian parents have different values than American parents and have higher expectations for their kids. it is DIFFERENT culture. an American parent tells their kids "do your best" while an Asian parent will pressure their kids to "be the best." These values fundamentally change the way Americans and Asians/Indians view education.

no one is truly more smart than any other group [in general] and sometimes we must look at something simple, like comparing why you or I are in school to why they might be there.
if they come from a poor and/or struggling society, they will be very hungry for what they can get to free themselves.
when someone has 'nothing', they can be very hungry to make sure they have 'something'.
with many north americans for instance, many of us go to school just because we should, our parents want it, our friends are going, and 'ho hum', its better than just sitting around.
Few of us truly have that hunger that makes us go the extra mile in our schooling. starvation and poverty in general are not knocking that loudly on our doors, or that of our families.
my generation is coming to the end of their worklives and what I see around me among the young is a struggle just to stay afloat, to survive and be able to have the independence that our parents knew. it is a much harder world today than it has been for 50 or so years.

They are not so "smart" in school. They, on average, just study a lot harder than most...which, of course, is admirable. But they are not smarter per se than any other group of people.
