The theme park has just shut down and i have read that they are trying to save the last of the rides that are ancient and irreplaceable! It is such a shame to let our heritage go! the world famouse cyclone rollercoaster has been half demolished how gutting! and how disgusting as it was un called for!

I used to love going there too! anyone any info on it?

It is such a shame! What reason is there to go to Southport now? except for the Shopping? The closure of Pleasureland will mean a great loss to southport not just sentimental loss but a financial loss and also a loss to our heritage with the demolition of the Cyclone! that was just uncalled for! I need a smiley to show that i am angry! Grrrrrrrrrr

Southport will be the next Morecambe!

I think there is too much hype over the larger modern facilities. Traditional seaside fairs are a thing of the past sadly, due to lack of investment by british business in resort areas, and also by cheap flights abroad. I live quite close to both Largs and Saltcoats on the west of Scotland where as a child spent many a wonderful day beside the seaside, and generally all there is now are arcades and amusements, and nothing to happily entertain my five year old ( except the arcades and amusements which just cost you a bomb). You hit the mark though with your comment on ancient and irreplaceable which demonstrates another lack of investment, many are shut down as they are too expensive to maintain and repair, which again is a sad reflection on the way we regard traditional entertainment. If the owners were hell bent on saving it they'd apply for heritage and lottery funding to help, but they'd also need a stack of marketting done to keep it up.

as a child southport was a must place for us to be taken by our mother every bank holiday. The rides and arcades were abundance, There was entertainment for all age groups, unfortunitly on a recent visit before it closed down, i was dissapointed in the lack of facilities it had to offer, after saying this southport should never of closed.

I do I used to have so much fun with my friend there! I dont think that its fair that they are shutting down all the little fairgrounds, first morcambe, then southport, then camelot, the only one left near me now is blackpool and that is extortionat prices :(
