I would say so. To kill one you destroy their brains, and brains operate on oxygen to sustain all metabolic processes. From this I conclude that yes they do need oxygen.

You asked a good question, But after doing a little research it was never mention. What the history about zombies state is that the body is suppose to be dead and then buried and after a period of time dug up an reanimated and something is placed into their mouths and there mouths are sewn shut, Also there is no way for them to consume any liquids.......... Now after several day, a buried body without food or water or oxygen one would be considered very dead. So I would say that no they don't need oxygen. One more thing their bodies are supposedly rubbed all over with a special ointment that suppose to keep the body from rotting away so quickly. also after 3 to 4 day without water the body will die rather quickly. Now with all of that going on I don't believe that O2 is on their wish list........................................

No, zombies do not need oxygen. First of all, nothing can survive on pure oxygen. Second of all, they are dead - I don't think they're doing much breathing these days.

In the movie " Land of the Dead ", the zombies walked accross a river bottom . They also became smart enough to operate guns and other devices .

Yes, they are considered the living dead. Which means that while they appear to be dead physically and mentally, they are still alive, but in this state. Being alive, their cells need oxygen.

i liked zombie films before i found out that they are real... don't know about oxygen but i think its really cruel....
