what happens in the end of "phantom of the opera"?

i have to do a report on the book, phantom of the opera, but its a little confusing at points...especially at the end, so in the movie, what happens to determine the end? do christine and raoul die?

The phantom waits in the secret tunnel, it is secret because no one else discovered it and he waits years composing love songs for Christine. Raoel and her have a good life but he passes, one day when she is at his grave, she sees the music box on his grave stone. She opens it and there is a note inside from the Phantom who asks her if she will have him for the rest of his life, he will wait at the top of the old opera house near the rearing horses for her answer.
As she deliberates at home whether to go, a message arrives from her late Raoel. He tells her that if she is reading this, he is gone and that he has been helping the Phantom to exist because the Phantom relinquished her to him so long ago.
Raoel tells her to go to him.
With the same gown he first saw her perform in, she arrives on the roof with the music box and the ring, now on her finger forever..................
That is my ending. Everyone got to be loved and love in return

Well in the movie, Christine and Raoul leave together and then the Phantom is left alone and he hides from the people. Then at the very end Christine dies and Raoul is left looking at her grave, that is the end of the movie.

at the end of the movie Christine leaves with Raoul and the Phantom escapes and remains in solitude but the movie is different than Gaston Leroux's book.So I would not use them in comparison.
