I agree...on some forms I've seen the phrase "Euro-American" rather than "white." I wish this phrase/label was used more often. The words black and white have such powerful connotations (white=good/pure, black=bad/evil). It should change.

Well, I was going to free write this one until I stumbled upon a great definition.

The term European American is more specific than White American in that these terms in their official usage include Americans of European, North African, and Middle Eastern ancestry. The term is used interchangeably with Caucasian American, White American, and sometimes Anglo American. [3]It should, however also be mentioned that the term "European Americans" is sometimes used as a synonym for White Americans in certain government publications such as the Fair Housing Act.[4]According to the Texas Association of Museums, "European American" is preferred by some people over the terms White American, Caucasian American or Anglo[5], a term commonly used in the southwestern US, because of that term collapses a number of distinct ethnicities under a single rubric with origins in England. The term also has a more neutral point of view than either White American or Caucasian American since both of these terms include a larger group of people than is acknowledged in Europe. Also, whereas White American and Caucasian American vary in the peoples they include and are politically charged, European American has a more stable definition and scope.

Good question and Yes, you can refer to me as an American Norwegian. We all come from foreign lands. Even the American Indians, came from Asia . So this is what America is all about. We are a mixture of emmigrants. But when our Ancestor's came to American soil, they knew darned well they had to be Legal. They came the legal way and was proud to be called an American. Europe, consists of many countries. So instead of calling emmigrants European Americans we need to specify from what country in Europe. Like Itallian Americans, German Americans, Polish Americans, Chinese Americans. Nope we have to identify them for their country of origin. Good question, tho.

This is a good one because it's really only Americans who make the distinction. Elsewhere in the world, one's nationality is sufficient identification without having to include a general assessment of one's origins. I'd just as soon be an American.

'European American' would strictly speaking not include people who were not from Europe (Russians, for example).

It's nit-picking in the extreme. Since most of the Native Americans had their land forcibly taken from them, why not just refer to everyone else as Illegal Americans. That should sort the sheep from the trees.

in fact Asians are white in basic terms as Caucasians are white . Now like each caucs available, some would be darker than easy in all races. Even eire has a team thats community to their land and could be considered dark not tanned. eastern, Korean, and area chinese language are of white dermis with the freckles and rosy cheeked like various different honest complected individual . Its approximately time to realize that there is not any such difficulty as yellow dermis different than being sickly with jaundice. Theres tanned or honest while referring the Caucasian. (hint) why do you think of Asian is interior the term Cauc-asian... maximum people who nonetheless shop on with the thought asian have a yellow tint stay off their ancestors previous racist viewpoints created to marginalize different races with the intention to supply the phantasm of superiority.

Europeans mean they are from Europe and the whites in America, although their ancestry can be traced to Europe, they are born and raised here in the U.S., and so maybe European American is not an appropriate term because Europe is a country of its own and a different country from America. European is someone from Europe. American is someone from America. So, if you say someone is European American, then one wouldn't know if he is from Europe or America. I think...
