what kinds of drugs were commonly used by authors,etc during the 18th 19th and 20th centuries (american and european mostly)

i have the names of the authors but, i know opium was a popular drug in the 18/19th century (1800's) but what about in the 20th century?

Sir Arthur Doyle portrayed Sherlock Holmes as using cocaine. The suggestion that he himself used cocaine is not out of the question.

This is from the early 20th century. We are in the 21st century.

i think cocain and morphine were about the only thing around,besides booze.... natural stuff would be peyote, opium..but most authersm id say cocaine and morphine * heroin)
