You could talk about Genetically Modified Foods (GMO) and microbiology, including whether it is good to add vitamins to rice and reduce our dependence on pesticides, or what impact does it have on 3rd world countries to sell seed that doesn't reproduce itself? Pick whether you think GMO is good or whether you want to argue against it.

You could talk about whether the use of stem cells is good or bad, including whether it could help cure disease and save lives or whether it kills life because it is from blasticists.

There are so many topics to choose. Choose one that is controversial and then persuade why it is good or bad. Good luck to you!

You would best find the answer in what your instructors wanted.

You didn’t indicate if it is for speech class or microbiology class.

You can pour your heart into a project only to get less of a grade than you hoped for. The reason is you did what you wanted rather than what the instructor wanted.

So taking a wild guess, they would probably appreciate a persuasive speech on why people should be interested in microbiology.

Or, why people should have an understanding of microbiology.

Think in terms of what they said when introducing the class. Those introductory remarks will give you subtle clues on what their passion and interest are. Appeal to those feelings and you will do good.

The more you can help others get what they want the sooner you will get what you want.

Best wishes,
