For example, cotton? I'm trying to make some for gifts, and there are way more fun prints in cotton than anything else. Has anyone had experience with this?
Thanks.

yes, ties can be made of any fabric within reason, i have even seen them made of leather. unfortunately, jazzy ties were a bit of a fad in the 80's with several thousand fashion nasties being created almost weekly. so do your friends a favour and don't give them ties as gifts, they suck are unfashionable and are a very individual thing. and more than anything people who wear ties with 'fun' prints should be shot.......
a tie is an accessory, it shouldn't scream out like a drag queen at a church picnic it should co-ordinate and blend with a suit which is the only time a tie should be worn preferably with a waistcoat with a simple tie pin to finish

I have seen neckties made of a polyester and cotton mix. But most are silk.

In the south the African American mens neckties are made of rope.

They do exist:

although I've never seen them. I suppose it has to be a special kind of cotton because the tie shouldn't look saggy.
