Mechanical pencils can be bought anywhere including supermarkets and drugstores. They look like a pen, but instead of having an ink refil they have a reservoir that holds thin pencil leads. Clicking on the top of the pencil cap with the thumb advances the lead out the tip as it is required. You can get them in an art store in a variety of lead sizes; .03, .05 and .07 being the most common sizes. Refill leads can be bought in a variety of hardnesses from 6B (softest and darkest) to 4H which is damn near invisible. The softer the lead and the finer the point, the easier the lead will break. These are extremely precise drawing tools and I gave up on traditional pencils when I discovered them. Much greater control, and no sharpening. Just advance the lead.
