The other desktop computer on my wired router has lost its internet for over a month. When I went on my roof to check out the cable that connected it, it was literally chewed up by all the rain, snow and friction. I dont want to purchase another cable because it takes too long to hook it up, plus it costs 70 dollars for 100 ft. I am interesting in buying a USB adapter in order to get an internet connection on my other computer but Im not sure if a USB adapter would work a wired router. Any Ideas. Thank you.

If you mean a USB to Ethernet adapter then it will work.

I'm not sure but I think that you will need to convert your whole wired network setup into a wireless setup. That would mean getting a wireless router, and USB adapters or wireless INC cards for all of your computers. I think that you are better off just replacing your old cable because even though it is a pain to replace, it is cheaper than converting your whole network setup to a wireless setup. Although I think converting to wireless is a good idea if you ever decide to get a laptop.

Check your cable prices! Ethernet cable is about $70 for 1,000 feet, not 100! If the cable is shot, using an USB to ethernet adaptor isn't going to help you, you need to replace the messed up cable run.
