If you haven't filed a police report and given them the serial number of your ipod you don't have a chance.
For all your toys, tools, and electronics that have serial numbers I highly recommend the link below to register these items for recovery.
Just enter the serial number in the box and click on ACTIVATE FREE. Follow the instructions given, and hope for the best. Check out the other protection services offered at this site for higher end equipment and laptops.

you could in basic terms song a stolen iPod touch in case you had before set it up with a monitoring app or service, like Apple's cellular Me, or the GadgetTrak app. P.S. in case you dropped your telephone in the grass, no one stole it - you lost it.
