I am a mother and I would NOT advise you to do this. I have a teen who went ahead and tried to do this herself. Then she tried to get a friend to help her. It got so infected, there was green puss coming out and it was really red and swollen. I was really worried so we went to the doctor. He gave her antibiotics and cleansing solution. It has since healed and we went to get it professionally done a few years later. It hurt less when the professional did it but she can't wear a bellybutton ring anymore. She has this hard ball of scar tissue around it that won't go away. Now she can't even wear one. Talk to your mom, calmly, know your information, do lots of research so you can answer ALL of her questions. Point out that you are trying to work on communication, openness and honesty with her. You don't give an age but my daughter was 14 when she first tried it on herself. Please, don't attempt to do this without a professional. I hope this helped you alittle. Good luck.

Don't do this...it will get infected. Very infected. I know someone who pierced their own belly button and had to get surgery because it was so infected, it looks really weird now. Even if you get it done by a professional, it can still get very infected. The reason is that your belly button is kind of a dark little hole...the perfect place for bacteria to grow. I know you think it'll look cool, but just imagine how cool it will look when you have a deformed belly button and you're wearing a bikini...to me that would be really embarassing. Talk with your mom about a different piercing that you would both agree on getting.

You need to wait till your mother says it is ok for you to pierce your belly button because if you pierce in the wrong place you can get paralized. And ear piercing and a belly button piercing are not even equal especially on the cartilage so be obediant and listen to your mother

Okay, so that would be REALLY stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your mom won't take you to get it done? Does that not tell you something? Can't this life-altering thing wait until you're either old enough to get it done without her permission (or without her driving you to the mall!?)? Good Grief! Grow up girl. There are so many more important things in your life than getting your stupid belly button pierced. Some day you'll understand what I mean. Right now, I'm sure you couldn't care less.

You really should think twice about piercing your own belly button. You can cause permanate damage to your body and risk getting infections and scaring. You should read this article..... it explains it alot better then I can... Go to a professional and don't risk it!

OMG- don't pierce yourself!
infection is horrible
how old are you? there is probably a good reason for your mom not wanting you to pierce your belly button.
wait until you are older and get it done professionally.

You should stop mutilating your body. If you are not old enough to go out and get a tattoo and piercing you probably shouldn't be getting them. Your mom is right to try to hold you back from desecrating your body.

Don't pierce your own. Wait for a professional to do it. On my most recent trip to the piercing shop, my piercer told me they spent the whole previous day fixing other people's mistakes from them trying to pierce themselves.

I do not recommend you piercing it yourself..
The risk of infection and scarring is high..
just wait till you can get it done professionally, so your covered and know its being done sterile and proper..

Don't do it yourself because belly button rings get easily infected. Once it gets infected, your mom will find out anyway, then you will be in more trouble.
