I'm not sure how possible all this is or if a surgery is needed, but it's for a book I'm working on.
A person gets shot in the arm and it hits bone. He gets the arm wrapped in an ace bandage but a few hours later gets attacked and the wounded part of his arm is hit multiple times very forcefully on purpose.
Could part of the bone somehow be shattered? Is a surgery need? About how long would the whole operation take (without complications)?

In response to Just Q:
Is it possible then for the bullet only to have nicked the bone? Or could the bullet have been from a small or weak enough gun not to have caused all that damage before the final attack?

Any of the above are possible depending on many variables. At close range the bullet would/could shatter the bone entirely...or it could just graze the arm or just penetrate the soft tissue. You can decide how it goes... The thing you should know if your character doesn't go to the hospital for treatment is that infection will develope over a short period of time (2 days or so). He will at least need to go to the ER for xrays, cleam out of wound and antibiotics.
Let me know when your book comes out cuz I love a good read ~~

First off,a person who suffers a gun shot wound that hits the bone is already going to have a shattered bone.
Secondly,it would be next to impossible to sucessfully wrap a shattered bone. . too many fragments of bone and plenty of flesh exposed.
Thirdly,to get wounded this bad I doubt seriously that with all of the blood loss, that they would be able to stand long enough to take multiple hits on an arm that because of the gun shot would probably be jelly anyway and hanging loose and flapping in the wind so to speak.
The whole ^#*)%&(^$ arm would be shattered and at best IF it could be repaired it could take hours in the OR as this would not only include repairing the bone but tendons, vessels and muscle. There is also the possiblitiy of amputation due to such mutilation.
Course,if your victim takes so many forceful hits to an already multilated arm, amputation may have already taken place and your victim dies before even making it to a hospital from severe blood loss.

If it your book and it is fiction do whatever you want BUT in real life surgery would be required. Actually the bullet wound would require a doctor and probably surgery.. clearly it is up to you. You are the writer and therefore G*D to your characters...
