I know putting them in a scrapbook sounds boring, but my mother-in-law passed away several years ago and we found several huge (5 to 6 inches thick) scrapbooks where she saved not only every xmas card given to her, but also anniversary cards, mother's day cards, and birthday cards. She only did this for about the first 15 years of her marriage. She just glued the backs to the pages, so you could still open up the cards and read letters/messages from 50+ years ago. Not only did her children enjoy peeking back in history, seeing their scrawled little signatures on their home-made cards, and reading about themselves in notes from relatives, but her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were "ooh-ing and ah-ing" over the beautiful cards, and asking about aunts/uncles/cousins who had passed away and they had never met. The "plain old scrapbooks" are now being fought over not only by her children, but by the grandchildren who realize what a treasure they are.

Make a Christmas tray from an unfinished wooden tray for the craft store. Sand then paint the tray a Christmasy color like red or gold, then choose several cards and layer them at the bottom of the tray as a collage. To make the tray changeable and protect the cards at the same time, have a piece of glass or plexiglass cut to fit exactly at the bottom of the tray then you can change the display as the mood strikes. You could also glue them to a large piece of cardstock and take them to an office store and get them laminated to make very unique Christmas placemats. If you want to cut the prettiest parts out of some of them, you can turn the cutouts into coasters by laminating and gluing onto a cork coaster round or square.

I just read where you can make a card holder from recycled cards. They were stitched together using a blind stitch, but I couldn't find the site again. About 6 (double) cards are used for the sides and one on the bottom.
