Sometimes.
You need a few things to make sure the relationship works out.
1. communication. You must agree on a way to communicate that works out for both people. Talk about your expectations- how often do you expect the person to call? Email?
2. Trust. You must trust him.
3. Eventually, you will be near him or her.
Also, you want to examine your relationship and make sure he doesn't have any flaws that would damage the relationship further down the road-

They can go for a little while, but you have to get the distance out if you want a chance of it lasting long.

Depends on the people. I for one require too much attention to be in anything long distance.

I highly recommend defining this relationship if there is comittment or an open relationship. I stayed in a relationship it was not defined and the communication was poor and eventually it lost its spark. Definition and communication is key and it will work, people in the military do it everyday.

This question depends on how much you love the person and how much you would be willing to make it work. Would you stay faithful? Would you be able to trust your partner? Personally, I say yes if the love is there!
