Yes! As a matter of fact. In April--when I was six months pregnant I got a HORRIBLE case of food poisoning--vomiting and diarea. It last a full 24 hours. I did have to the emergency room and get pumped full of three bags of IV fluids just because I wasn't keeping any fluids in.

The baby was okay, though--and she's 4 months as of today and doing FABULOUS!

I am sure your baby will be fine too. To be on the safe side, though I would call your OB if you are seeing one. They will let you know whether or not they want you to come in for fluids.

You ate the entire piece before you realized the bacon was rotten?

Food born illnesses are more dangerous in pregnancy, especially before 20 weeks. But generally only if a high fever is present.

Your body has ways of keeping those illnesses from setting in, such as causing you to vomit, or turning your bowels to water so you can expell the offending food before an infection sets in.

Generally if you dont have severe abdominal pain the food wasnt as bad as you thought it was, and your system will deal with it accordingly.

If however you have severe pains, vomiting, fever, or explosive diarea, go to the doctors right away.

Generally gastrointestinal issues from bad foods will not affect the fetus, unless of course you become dehydrated. Be sure to get as much fluids down as possible. And if you are not keeping anything down go to the doctor. But I would let your doctor know that you had food poisoning, so they can check for listeria which can affect the fetus. Listeria is an infection that can be gotten from unpasteurized foods and packaged or undercooked meats.

The human body is a pretty impressive thing, it can deal with certain amounts of yuckiness by itself. I would not worry unless you actually get sick..... diarrhea, vomiting, fever... stuff like that. If it does happen, call the doctor and see what they have to say. I got really sick at about 15 weeks, I was miserable. Doctor set me up with some antibiotics and everything was fine.

If you do get food poisoning dont worry. Just let your doctor know. Your baby will be fine. I had it when I was around 38 weeks with my 2nd baby and everything was ok.
