You sit there in your heartache // Waiting on some beautiful boy // To save you from your old ways // You play forgiveness // Watch it now, Here he comes // He doesnt look a thing like Jesus // But he talks like a gentleman // Like you imagined // When you were young // Can we climb this mountain // I dont know // Higher now than ever before // I know we can make it if we take it slow // Let's take it easy // Easy now, Watch it go // We're burning down the highway skyline // On the back of a hurricane // That started turning When you were young // And sometimes you close your eyes // And see the place where you used to live // When you were young // They say the devil's water // It ain't so sweet // You dont have to drink right now // But you can dip your feet // Every once in a little while // ... He doesn't look a thing like Jesus // ... But more than you'll ever know.

...Now, the message I got from this song wasn't really a religious one, though it does make a few references to Jesus. I think it's more about a lonely girl, waiting for her perfect man. From a Christian point of view, Jesus is this perfect man, and she's looking for someone like Him. The fact of the matter is (in this song, anyway), that "Mr.Right" has been around this whole time, but this lonely girl had a very narrow view of perfection, so she never noticed. The lines "Waiting for some beautiful boy to save you from your old ways" and "..The back of a hurricaine, that started turning when you were young" hints that this girl has lived a corrupted life, full of shame. "Can we climb this mountain? I don't know.....I know we can make it if we take it slow" may have something to do with this "perfect" man taking her out of that life.
In a nutshell, the message I took from this song is "There is more than one way to be perfect". This lonely girl was waiting for some perfect man, like Jesus. But this perfect man was already there, waiting for her to accept him, so he could take her away from her horrible life, and start over, together. I think the last line of the song sums it up pretty well : "...He's more than you'll ever know".
Keep your eyes open. Perfection is all around us, and it comes in many different forms.

I think it just means that this girl was waiting for someone perfect, someone like "Jesus", but she ended up just settling for someone who "talked like a gentleman", in other words, she lowered her expectations.
