What is this about? Are they complex numbers, with i representing the ordered pair (0, 1). And does quantity mean what we usually call modulus? (or sometimes, magnitude?)

That's the only meaning I can think of, and if it's right, the modulus of the first one is sqrt(3^2+(-2)^2) and the second is sqrt(5^2 + (-1)^2), and you can take it from there.

You want to compare 3-2i and 5-i, right?

They're both complex numbers which are not ordered: you canno say > or < but you can say = if they are the same.

Since they are complex and not equal that's all that you can say.
