Circumcision is very beneficial, its cleaner and several research bodies have concluded that circumcised men have less risk of contracting STD's such as AIDS-HIV or herpes.
Uncircumsised penises are difficult to keep clean, and more prone to infections and penile cancer, studies have shown.

Is it NOT true that the AAP (American Academy of Paediatrics) does not recomend circumcision. They simply say they leave the desicion to parents. But recently, and specially after the New Zealand study they have been the AAP has beendiscussing if it may be needed to change their policy and recomend circumcision to all newborns as they used to do, so in the future we may see that the AAP advocates again circumcision.

About STD's:

As I said, several studies carried out by prestigious research bodies have concluded that uncircumcised penises are more prone to infections and contraction of STD's, including AIDS-HIV. Circumcised men have been proved to be up to seven times less likely to be infected than those who are uncircumcised. As for women, studies also show that circumcision also protecs femanle partners from AIDS-HIV and other STD's. Browse this article: http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/Press_releases/2006/02_08_06.html

About sensitivity of a circumcised penis:

No medical or physiological study has proved this, opposed common belief that circumcision reduces sensitivity. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) confirms this on their web site; have a look at: http://www.aap.org/pubed/zzzjzmemh4c.htm

Circumcision is an easy and nowadays painless procedure, that has many benefits, and virtually no risks.
Circumcision is NOT an amputation. Circumcision is NOT comparable at all to female circumcision, which is something completely different.

Circumcision rates are INCREASING nowadays, both in the United States and overseas. Many African and South American countries with little circumcision tradition are starting to promote the procedure to help to reduce the AIDS-HIV infection rates.

It is a choice made by the parents when the child is born, it is not mandatory in U.S. births. The U.S. medical community used to have a position on it stating that it has benefits that warrant its use. The current position, however, says there is no benefit and it should not be routinely done. Some cultures do it for religious purposes. Studies have shown no difference in health problems between circumcised and natural males. There are a few studies, however, that show a small possibility that those that are circumcised have a lower risk of acquiring STDs like HIV. But this has yet to be studied further and does not warrant circumcision.

It is my position that it should be the individual's choice. Parents should let their children decide if they want it done when they are mature enough to understand.

As for the post by Wise Guy above, circumcision actually removes nerve endings present in the foreskin and decreases the sensitivity to outside stimuli. So those without an intact foreskin actually have less sensation than those with an intact foreskin.

Circumcision is an outmoded way of trying to keep men from being too sexual. As more people learn how harmful is it, it is becoming less prevelant in the U.S., which is the only country where it used to be routinely done for other than religious reasons. (Jews and Muslims do it for religious reasons.)

The foreskin is a functioning body part which protects the head of the penis as well as providing pleasure itself.

Circumcised men (and their partners) have much less sexual sensation for two reasons. First, the foreskin itself is rich in nerve endings - once you are cut, that takes away about 75% of your sexual sensation! Second, the cut penis head (glans) rubs against clothing. For a while it is sore all the time, but eventually it developes a layer of something like scar tissue, which further cuts down on sensation, but which also feels kind of harsh to your partner.

Cut men often have to use lubricants, and some end up having to finish "by hand" to climax, as normal intercourse will not stimulate what little nerves are left enough to allow ejaculation.

Please do not mutilate your baby boy! And if you are asking about having it done yourself, unless you have a serious disease, please leave yourself whole! Oh, yeah, it hurts, too, to be mutilated, and you'd have to be very careful not to get turned on for at least a month, maybe longer. Bad idea all around.

It is very important that it would no longer be practiced. Because sexual feelings are subjective and one without a foreskin never knows how it feels when one has it, it's easy to advocate for it. Only one who has circumsicion as an adult can compare. But then they would always find and say only good about having themselves cut because if they admit the opposite, they admit they shouldn't have done this irreversible in terms of restoring the nerve endings in the natural foreskin act. And those adults who have it, usually have social or medical prerequisites, satisfaction of which is the award for the sacrifice.

I believe it should be forebidden to circumcise children, so the parents couldn't do it.

Have you heard about many adults who decided to do it?!! Just the fact that they are so few shows that almost no one would want to have it done to themselves unless it wasn't their choice and they have nothing left to do other than just accept it and find good in it to help themselves live with it.

And about that smegma issue - only total imbeciles (sorry for the figurative use of the word) ever have it accumulated in noticeable quantity.

Actually this tradition started with jewish people dating way back. America has picked up this practice and has been standard. No longer mandatory.
