Not sure of the most underrated as there are surely too many,..but I think the most overrated movie of all time [especially regarding the TV commercials that were aired for it] was the latest Titanic movie. One commercial for it had the phase "The Greatest Movie of All Time",..how dare anybody say that of their film!?! Curiously less than 10 yrs later it is already gathering dust in many peoples minds. Here in Canada we saw on the news [TV] many a teenage girl who told a reporter that they had paid to see it in a theater,...10 or more times in a week!,..These girls would be devastated to see Leonardo in a movie he was in a few yrs earlier where he portrayed an extremely sadistic gay man in a true story involving an English poet, though it is a movie not suitable for anyone under 18 [forget the name of it, didn't watch it all, just watched about 1/2hr as I was channel surfing, at the same time of the latest Titanic hype]....not that that anything to do with the basic point of the great buzz [most of all the above mentioned phrase!!] that existed regarding this movie at the time. I think the 1st Titanic movie is the one that was made in Germany during WW2,..its' special effects were so good that some of it was used in the 50's English remake called 'A Night To Remember'. This German version is available on DVD and while of course having no 3rd Reich symbols or such,..it is a propaganda movie somewhat in its' depiction of things like the disdain of the upper class towards the lower class in an effort to try to convince Germans of their superior 'system'/society. Unfortunately many of the most underrated films may also be gathering dust [eg: The Great Dictator,..Solent Green]. John

Overrated films...
Citizen Kane (Great for a film class to watch, boring as hell for an audience to sit through..)
Titanic (We know what happens to the ship, and really don't care about the little love story on board)
Pretty much every comic book film...(they can never really match the imagination we have created for ourselves when we read comics).
Underrated film...
We don't even know the names to them. There is a mass of truly entertaining, inspiring, and creative stories out there there were done indenpendently and now probably sit in the filmmakers closet because Hollywood is too big to care about getting such a small film to the masses. You'll find a much better film at a film festival then you will at the multiplex on a Saturday night.

"Sideways." Worst characters and story and all trendy trashy stuff. Yes...of all time. I was VERY disappointed it got such great reviews. Somebody got paid off in wine on that one. WAY, WAY OVERATED.
Under rated...I don't know as I don't see many movies but read all the reviews before I go.
