The atmosphere reaches 348 miles up from the surface of the earth. It is broken down in many different layers starting with the troposphere which is from the surface to about 5 to 9 miles up. The next layer is the stratosphere which goes up to about 31 miles up. Next is the Mesosphere which goes to about 53 miles up. Then its the thermosphere which goes to 372 miles high. Beyond that is exosphere then space.
