There is a difference between lonely and being alone.

Lonely is feeling as if you've been abandoned and need someone to be with you.

Being alone is sometimes by choice and some people can manage it quite well.

Not having a life partner doesn't mean you have to be alone. You can develop friendships, join groups for hobbies or common interests, you could spend time with family, or volunteer where there are people who need help,....seniors, handicap, hospital, soup kitchen etc.

Being alone is a choice therefore being lonely is a choice as well. Do you choose to allow the single life get you down, or get you going?

But the holidays do shout it loud and clear if you are a single and there are couples and families everywhere you turn.

Oh my God! YES! Life sucks on so many levels right now. It's been a LONG time since I felt this lonely before, despite being with my Uncle and his family... I guess I'm just disconnected. So to answer your questions, it's probably the holidays, I'm normally fine back at school.

I'm lonely most of the time, but the holidays do seem to intensify the feeling. Guess I should be used to it by now, right?

Yes. Both, the holidays make it worse.

And this past year in particular has sucked for me in terms of both online and offline friends sticking around....

Ah well....what can you do? I guess people really do find me too annoying for words, or something.

Actually, I'm willing to pay for some "alone time," but I don't see it coming anytime soon.
