A heavy rain took with it the dirt under a corner of the newly poured foundation. Several inches in.... there is no support for this corner. The builder will just push dirt under where it washed away and bury the foundation part that is over exposed. Should I be worried about this? Seems like it should not have happened.

A few inches? like two or three, maybe four inches? I wouldn't be too worried about that. A typical footing (foundation) is 18 to 24 inches wide (sometimes wider, very rarely thinner). If the part washed away exceeds one third of the footing width (exceeds 6 inches for an 18 inch footing or 8 inches for a 24 inch footing) call the building inspector for your county and have him look at it and be sure he can get there before the builder covers it up. The building inspecter can and will force the builder to fix it properly but keep in mind that taking this route may severly sour your relationship with your builder. But most of all it is important that your new house is built right - sour relationship or not.

Sounds like it was poured on fill dirt. It will need a pier placed anywhere the dirt washed away. I wouldn't let the builder fix it without at least having a foundation repair company make their recommendations. Legally, you have to give the builder a chance to fix it (as long as he is willing to pay the cost), but, he has to fix it to your satisfaction. If you can contact the excavator, I would ask him why this happened.
