The short side is 8
The long side is 32

To find this you use the formula for the area of a rectangle:
A=L x W

A=256
W=x
L=4x (because it is four times the width)

256= x (4x)
256= 4x^2
64= x^2 take the square root
x= 8

4(8)= 32

Suppose the width = X ---> then Length = 4X

Area = Length * Width

256 = 4X * X ---> 256 = 4X^2 ---> 64 = X^2 ---> 8 = X

Width = X = 8

Length = 4X = 4*8 = 32

l = 4x
w = x
area = 256

area = l x w
256 = 4x * x
256 = 4x(2)
256/4 = 4x(2)/4
64 = x(2)
x = 8
