Attention Ignorami! EVERYONE HAS TAKEN CLASSES! You don't just get in front of a camera and do it! If you don't believe me, go find a script from something you've never seen before and act it out with your friends. I stress that it be something you've never seen before so you don't simply do a bad impersonation of the actors in the movie. You'll be terrible. It takes years to be good. Most of the famous actors you see still take classes and/or have coaches. Do you think Alex Rodriquez just shows up an hour before the game and hits 'em out? No, he worked for years before he played professionally and he still works out like crazy. It's a gross misconception about the acting profession that you just learn your lines and do it. Celebrities fudge their bios all the time. The ones who claim never to have taken a lesson are usually lying. Some of them did learn the craft by doing tons of amatuer productions. But most studied for years with top teachers. Do any of you people who've answered this question personally know any professional actors? Let me give you all a piece of advice. Be an empty vessel. Don't base your opinions on pre-conceived notions. Most of the time they are flawed. Look up "free thinking" and try it. Grow.

With no real offense meant, I suspect audiences rarely know. It isn't something that's strictly advertised, or in any film credits. Beyond that some good advice for any theater majors in University is,,, upon exiting the building,,, Pitch the big gray book of rules in the nearest trash can.

Certainly there may be technical aspects of theatrical education that may define a performers career,,, IE: VOICE,,, but to ACT,,, is just that, and has to be a passion on a higher level than a discipline.

It does not matter who has had acting lessons or not, all that really matter is the better performer. You can take as many acting class as you like, but the fact of the matter is: the performer with no training at all could be just as (or twice) great as the person with training.

There's something to be said of actors who have taken formal instruction. There are things you need to know when working with a director. You need to be comfortable in your abilities and skills. Taking lesson can help you develop your style and learn more about yourself and how to make the most of your character. There's so much more to acting than just getting up on a stage and memorizing lines.

The ones who haven't taken lessons, are the ones who stand out for there natural ability. For instance, Joe Perry of Aerosmith never took a Guitar lesson in his life, and look at him. As far as actors are concerned take Sylvester Stalone for example.

While the fact that a performer who is talented will stand out no matter if they have had training or not, in truth, a talented actor who has taken classes or had training is still better.

It's a craft folks, and you don't just jump full grown and full armored out of Zeus' head.

It really does take years to become an overnight success.

The ones who haven't(new comers) and certainly not rappers/singers turned actors. To me you get more of a natural response in emotion from them; they play the part they feel not what they were trained to act.
