Yes they can. The timing in music is very mathematical. There is plenty of science behind how instruments work. I know many computer programmers that are musicians as well. The geeky jobs get the money to help support your artist hobbies.

Keep taking math, science, and computer courses. If you can get an intership in one of those fields, go for it and try it out.

Yes, there is a common thread. The common thread between these two, is math. From a 3/4 time in a waltz, to 1/2 time for a fast rhythm, math is the common denominator. One only needs to be able to keep count, to emerge a brilliant magician, or even dancer. My best to you, in regards to your Career choices.
