Jeez, way to wind up the yanks! I'm a physical anthropologist and have seen the statistic bandied about that two thirds of American adults are now classed as obese. That's quite a lot. However, statistics can be misleading, and obesity is not a mark of laziness rather a result of poor diet.

And there you have it, poor diet. And it's not just the Americans. Lifestyles have changed over the past fifty years. Obesity and poor nutirition have become linked to low socio economic status. Many people don't have the time to cook properly and turn to ready meals or take away food. We are 'fed' images of high fat and sugar foods by media all the time, it takes no effort to stuff our faces with crap all day long.

However, it is all too easy to point our fingers at the Americans. I suggest you take a walk down your own high street and have a look at the people you see. You will probably see quite a few obese individuals, all munching on a mainly American style diet of burgers, fries and shakes. American food culture has spread around the world, and it would not have done that if the rest of the world had not been covetous of it.

Let he who has never eaten a burger cast the first stone...

although the Romans invented the burger... hmm... further parallels between the US 'empire' and that one.

I am an American woman and I'm not fat or lazy, however, I do agree that our country has a very poor concept of nutrition and the many fast food chains contribute to obesity here. As for lazy.... I work with some pretty lazy foreigners here in America, the one to my right loves Burger King. Yuk.The one on my left is late every day and has to have herself a tea party in the break room at least 4 times a day. I work a minimum of 10 hours a day, and right through lunch if I need to. Hmmm, who's fat and lazy?

Here are a few facts for you. The food industry puts additives in our food in this country to make us hungry, and make us fat. Why? Because fat people eat more! And the foods tthat have the most of these additives? Why, diet products of course! Wonder why again? Because they know that fat people or people that are trying to lose weight eat these products, and if they get thin, they will no longer buy these products, and will buy LESS food in general! Diet sodas are THE WORST! In this country, more people exercise now than ever before in history, more people jog now than ever before in history, more people diet now than ever before in history, and there are more overweight people now than ever before in history! Growth hormones have a lot to do with it. Every piece of beef, every piece of chicken, every piece of pork that you buy is full of growth hormones that are ingested by these animals to make them grow faster, so the food producers can sell them sooner, and make MORE MONEY! It's always ALL ABOUT THE MONEY! The problem is that WE eat these products that are full of these growth hormones, and toxins that you could not believe, and it affects us! That's why you see girls at the age of 9, 10, or 11 already well into puberty. And for us older folks? WE GROW FAT! Consider the people that come here from other countries. They come here healthy, and slim, and within a few months of eating the food in this country, they begin to gain weight! The only way to stop it is to eat only organic foods, and wild game. As for lazy, there are lazy people everywhere. I am an American, and I work six days a week, year round in the roofing trade! So I think if you called me lazy to my face, I might pop you in yours. I am far from lazy. There ARE lazy people here, though. I DO agree with that. Instant gratification, video games, and too many couch potato activities, I guess. Does that answer your question satisfactorily?

Like it's a bad thing ?

Fat lazy american women... Hmmmm ! ..... Or is that personal to me ?

What an odd question you ask, but odder still your astonishing generalisation. None (not ONE) of the Americans I have met are lazy (and only one was fat, and she was gorgeous too!).

I think youre a bit silly, but I'll take your word that youre not jealous.

I live in The UK and I've seen some LAZY LAZY people here.. infact, being a student myself, I'm pretty lazy. Stop generalizing again, you've probably never been to america, and have only just learnt there's such thing as the place.

Why are you so stereotypical? I know some really hardworking people, I have a friend who lives on a farm, her family doesnt own a tv or a computer or have cell phones, they don't need them, they are outside all day trying to provide food and money. By the way you're the the kind of people that cause anorexic's and bulimic's, do you know what happen's to them? they die, so I guess it could be said that you are a murderer, you killed my friend because she thought that everyone thought that she was fat so she stopped eating and died.

aww....I hate sterotypes...But don't worry. Many Americans are not fat and lazy. Life in America is not how you see it on TV. There are alot of hard workers here. In fact, I know a ton of hard workers.
But I have to ask you this. What has caused you to come to this conclusion? How hard do you work each day? How much are you rewarded for your work? Do you feel you can get better benefits in other countries?
Regardless of what you think, the dominant middle class of America has to work hard to go anywhere in life.

I'm going to refrain from saying a lot of mean things. And will just attribute the question to the fact that you may be uneducated. Have you ever been to America? If so where? And with whom? Lack of expirence and knowledge perhaps.....

Oh WOW! You're bold to open such a can of worms! A lot of hate mail is in store for you...guaranteed. My admiration for being so bold!

Life in America is too easy and we don't have to move much in order to get a lot of things done...cars, computers, comfortable furniture, airplanes, fast food... a land of prosperity, is a land of too much comfort.

This love of comfort is the first thing that happens to any great civilization before their fall...just before their fall...as in the Greeks, Romans, Egyptians...pride and over inflated ego begins to be predominant. The next thing that happens to the minds of a civilization about to crumble, is that the begin to look for something outside themselves to blame...

Blame immigrants, blame politicians, blame the athiests, blame the christians, blame the teachers, blame the parents...blame anyone...just don't blame me!

I love the american bumpersticker that spoke the truth in a nutshell..."We have met the enemy and "they" is "us"!"

Yep, we're fat, we're lazy, we're egotistical, and basically our education, religious and family systems have rendered us ignorant and totally lacking in insight...our main thought for the future is what will be on sell at the mall next week and which movie star is sleeping with which other celebrity...so much for the American intellectual abilities.

I appologize in advance for the hate mail you and I are soon to get...besides everything else pointing to our demise is a mental disability called denial..."De" Nile isn't just a river in Egypt! ("De" is slang for "the").

Boldly speak truth...someone will hear it.
