I thought so coz many famous rock stars are Brits.

It originated in the US in the late 40's, but they called it rock music at the time, even though it was more of a jazz, blues, etc. type of music. Later on, in the mid 1950's, hard rock came to be in the UK. So i guess you could argue that "hard rock" was born in the UK.
